GUIDELINES FOR CONTRIBUTORS

The Editor welcomes submissions for consideration for publication in Styr. 
 

We value writing that is lucid, elegant, direct, and alive. 
 

Specialist terminology should be explained where necessary. Please limit including notes and references as much as possible. Extensive scholarly apparatus should be avoided, but claims, quotations, and references to other authors should be adequately supported. Sources may often be identified naturally within the text.  Direct quotations and claims substantially dependent on another author's work should provide enough information for the source to be identified. Brief endnotes may be used where necessary.

 

Styr uses British English as its house style, although submissions written consistently in another standard form of English are welcome.

• Pure polemic

• Empty abstraction

• Unexplained technical language

• Unnecessarily academic prose

• Unsupported claims

• Personal attacks

 

Images and Other Material

Images and other visual material may be submitted where they contribute meaningfully to the piece.

Authors are responsible for identifying third-party material and obtaining any permissions required for publication in print and electronic form.

Copyright and Publication

​

Authors retain copyright in their contributions.
 

Following acceptance, authors will sign a publication agreement granting Styr the rights necessary to publish, reproduce, distribute, sell, archive, and promote the contribution in print and electronic formats.
 

Unless otherwise agreed, publication in Styr does not place a contribution under a Creative Commons licence.

Styr determines how published material is made available to readers, including whether material is included within an issue or made freely accessible.

 

Proofs

 

Authors will normally receive a proof before publication.

At proof stage, changes should ordinarily be limited to typographical, factual, or production corrections. Substantive revisions should be completed earlier in the editorial process.

 

Author Copies

Authors will receive a digital copy of the issue in which their contribution appears.

Details of any printed contributor copies will be communicated separately.

Submission Format

​

In the body of the email, please include:

Name, Email, Address, Institutional Affiliation if any, Short Biography, Submission Category, Title, and Word Count.

 

Please attach your manuscript as a Word document (.doc or .docx)  or include a Google Docs link with Viewer access enabled, so the editorial team can open and download the document. We accept scans of handwritten work if the writing is neat and legible.

Please use 12-point type with 1.5-line spacing and a clear, standard font such as Arial, Times New Roman, Georgia, or similar. Use standard margins and keep formatting simple.
